Bio
Few people can accurately say that they have mastered more than one
instrument and Sing/Rap; Count Joey Streetz on that short list. His
bright, polished arrangements have become the in-demand sound across
genres, and his scene-stealing vocal performances are a breathe of fresh
air to the music scene. Since bursting on the scene in 2001, Joey has put a
of 4 mixtapes out to critical acclaim. So it should come as little surprise
that the musical maestro’s tremendous, well-produced First Album entitled
"Smooth Musick: Tha Genesis" will be a project of pure musicianship as
well as a Lyrical Storybook. The distinctive spelling used for the album
title may not hold any significance, but the meaning behind the name
carries weight. "Smooth Musick is my group because I always wanted to make
music that would make people sing, cry, dance, and relate with me." "I also
want to make Music for the females because I think they are very unique
people who get mistreated majority of the time." says Joey. In 2001, Joey
began writing rhymes for his tracks: Me, What time it is, and Tha One which
were featured on his middle school's compilation Cd. In 2010 Joey released
a remake of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" entitled "Lets Dance" and
his rapid flow caught the attention of all who listened. It was on his
first ever mixtape entitled "The Word On Tha Streetz" which was well
recieve and told the world that Joey had arrived. After releasing three
other mixtapes(TWOTSII, 2.5, and Saints Only Use Lyrics) under his
alter-ego name Equiknox, Joey returned to the music scene and began
production on his new mixtape entitled "Tha Word On Tha Streetz III:Joey's
Back" which will be released in two different versions on September
22,2011. Joey speaks alot about his struggles, something he knows all too
well about. His New Orleans, Louisiana hometown has been lacking a real
musical figure since Lil Wayne of Cash Money Records. So the man born Joe
Johnson chose that musical direction to tell his stories. He taught himself
how to make music, write songs and record music. Now, as Joey Streetz gains
more control over his artistry, expect him to continue expanding his sonic
and creative reach as a songwriter-rapper-instumentalist-producer. After
all, he knows the key to long-term success in the music industry is
evolution. “"You’ve got to be different and keep it consistent at the
same time, which is super-hard to do,”" Joey says. "“I come different
every time and that’s what people look for, what they expect.”" And
with Smooth Musick on tha rize, the world expects nothing less than another
magical musical adventure from Joey Streetz. Expectation achieved.
